Not Sister Lilith selling me health insurance on Tumblr ?
Ohhh, if they go there with Avatrice, I would very much like to know her thoughts. Now I’m conflicted, lol. I didn’t really love the voice over because it honestly made things too simple, instead of wondering what she was thinking and being left to interpret it ourselves, she’d just tell us in the most basic of terms, and most of the time we could have inferred it from the scenes anyway. But if she falls for Beatrice….oh, man, I’d love to hear the thought process then.
Lol, I genuinely cannot imagine that scene with Beatrice. That is a NUN, anon! And it’s Beatrice! I’d have to see it to believe it (and yes, WN writers, that is a challenge).
You sent this before some of the recent asks about JC so tbh, I wonder now if his purpose is as the others suggest, to be some Christ like figure? I don’t know how that plays into the version of the world they have, though. I would just as soon be happy with them dropping him from the show once they realized he wasn’t really working, much like they did with the voice over.
And yes, ARQ seemed like the bad guy just because of the usual TV tropes, I perked up at Ava doing something clever and unpredictable like going straight to Jillian, it was entertaining and made sense. But continuing to go to her was a stroke of genius and a nice subversion of that trope.
Adding to the whole “who does Ava look like” convo, she def has a whole Ellie from the Last of Us vibe. Short, sassy, and in love with a woman.
Oooh, yes, Emilia Clarke, or for me, young Piper Perabo, I can definitely see that. Okay, Ellie from Last of Us is just Ellen Page reskinned, that’s not a new one. 😛 But I will take the “in love with a woman”, heh.
True, true, like, the first person to offer her comfort at all, really. And like, I know the later eps are so good and the ones we focus on the most but the fact that even at that early stage, Ava was actually the one to initiate the hug. Even when she was waking up earlier, restrained to the bed and all she could hear was two voices arguing about what to do with the halo and thus about her, Beatrice was the one saying to, you know, not tear it out of her and let her die again.
Despite Lilith’s softening toward her, Ava will probably always be closest to Mary and Beatrice, but in different ways. With Mary, the relationship was built on tough love, I saw someone say Mary was like an older sister, and that’s super accurate. They’ll always have each other’s back but their relationship’s gonna be defined by snark and eyerolling and feigned annoyance.
With Beatrice, Ava’s just a lot more open and vulnerable because that’s how their relationship was formed. Like, she tried to be snarky when they first met, at dinner, remember, “I’ve never been to middle school but I feel like I just lived through it”, and Beatrice just didn’t play, she flat out said the jokes weren’t helping and when Ava tried to pass it off as just her thing, Beatrice didn’t accept that and explained why people were on edge. She was a little stern but also took Ava seriously and was honest and opened up herself and that set the tone for their friendship. I still can’t get over the fact that when Beatrice snapped at her in ep 8, Ava just flat out asked why, in that hurt way, because that’s not what she had come to expect from Beatrice. Imagine! The character we saw in those first eps to actually have formed a relationship with someone to the point where she had actual trust and expectations of good treatment. Again, I’m so glad Beatrice justified that and immediately apologized.
Bc I really don’t want the story to turn into Ava bearing a ~savior~ or whatever that’ll end up being battled over for fate of the world or battling Adriel. But Ava could be a play on Ave Maria or sumn who knows. I’m hoping not but I don’t think we’ve seen the last of JC, that’s a random ass name that’s prolly standing for Jesus Christ and he has no background & was willing to travel world w her, I think he’ll prolly be back. (2/2)
Oh, wow, you took your extrapolation in unexpected directions. Um, hmmm. I mean, of course you can’t discount any theory, but for now, I don’t think that’s where they’re going.
First, as far as I know, Jesus isn’t exactly known for being the father of a pivotal figure. Second, Ava is pretty much a child herself, it would be…something for the writers to take this person who has been bed bound for most of her short life and barely experienced anything on her own and to then make her pregnant. Third, they’re ALL in a lot of very physical fights, Ava herself, AFTER ep 5 (the one with the sex), has fallen off a cliff, been blown into a wall by her own powers, shot in the chest with an arrow, electrocuted. It would be wild for them to say, yeah, she’s pregnant, and then for us to watch her next season be either in those same situations with a visible belly or laid up for a whole season? I just don’t think that’s anything people want to watch and I’d hope they’d realize that. Fourth, even the Terminator franchise, built on a mom giving birth to the savior premise, in recent years decided that was kind of a sexist concept.
Maybe this is all just me convincing myself, but yeah, I don’t think that’s really on the horizon. There’s nothing about the halo concept that implies a kid to finish it off. JC might be back though, that seems much more likely.
Waaait. Now I feel bad for being so incredulous at the other anon because that actually makes…a ton of sense. It really WOULD explain his overinflated part in the plot, including why we had to see that whole odd very specific dynamic spelled out like that, like did we need to see so much of the friends. Huh. Well. Yeah, and for sure, Adriel and Michael are gonna play some kind of role based on the names, a character named JC might yet prove to have his purpose. Innnnteresting.
Ah, hmm, yeah, I think even someone who HADN’T been locked away from everything for most of her life would still not be completely confident about their sexuality at that age (or even older), but Ava in particular is pretty new to everything. For right now, at least, it seemed like a lot of her feelings for JC were tied up in the experience more than him specifically, so they’ve really left it quite wide open where they’ll go.
