Did you watch all of Devon’s take over? She answered a question about April moving her hand from Sterling’s face to her waist and it was PERFECT.

I hadn’t watched till I saw this and I guess because of the 100 story limit I missed the start? But I saw a bunch and they were great. 🙂 And lol, the answer to that one, nice. She was super personable and self-aware and funny as always, it was worth the watch. And again, I’m struck by how clear and sweet her voice is! Theater major, I guess.

I noticed the fandom is pretty split on this when i ask so i will ask you as well.. Would Sterling or April be owed an apology in season 2. Some say no April was super messy knowing how Sterling felt about her being mean to her an flirting with her ex boyfriend right in her face so fucked up that pretty much evens our the dad thing. Than others are saying kind of true but she cause April alot of pain too. An she let april open up to her knowing shes why this is happening to April.

Ooh, good question. (Haha, me trying to be upbeat and act like nothing’s changed. :/)

I would think both are, no? Both doing things that hurt the other doesn’t just, like, cancel things out. You’ve laid it out quite clearly, while April is absolutely within her rights to change her mind and not come out and even break up, acting how she did at the lock-in wasn’t justified.Though I’m not sure, after that conversation, if there’d been a season 2 if Sterling would have ever have gotten an apology for specifically that. April DEFINITELY would have gotten one for Sterling hiding EVERYTHING about her dad but probably too late, probably after she found out some other way.

Im really curious to know what you think April’s thought process was after grabbing Sterlings arm at the debate? Like i just cant get over the look in her eyes when she realizes what she did (to me she looked really freaked out)

Yay, the good thing about delaying answering these asks is that now I have the benefit of knowing from Devon’s interviews how she was playing these, so that totally affects how I think of that scene.

Although even without that, I tend to go very conservative (as in playing it safest and lowballing, not…being a rights-denying bigot) with how I read f/f scenes, just from years of not wanting to hope for too much or be called delusional or even predatory, thinking it’s more Objective to see less explicit f/f even when canon, which is–that’s a whole separate issue–but it is how I am, so I was already thinking it was more just April catching herself, realizing how emotional and upset she was getting, losing control of herself and pulling back.

And that’s backed by Devon’s interviews now, she wasn’t playing it overtly as April realizing there was something sexual or romantic there, not that that isn’t still a possible layer in all this, in fact, in canon it IS there in the whole arc, there IS some physical awareness of Sterling growing in April, but for the most part, no, I didn’t read that as the same kind of awakening for her as it was for Sterling. I mean, it wouldn’t have been an “awakening” in the same sense even, she’s long known how she feels about women, but I still don’t think it was her going, oh no, this is an intense Adele sitch. I think she was just so upset and bothered by everything in her world then, her family, Craig Wu, and most especially Sterling, things like crushes and romance were not on her mind at all, not even to suddenly snap her out of the spiraling mood.

Another “blink and you miss it” moment is when they’re in Sterling’s dads wood shop making their assignment, April actually bites her lip after looking at Sterling (you can kinda see it when when they do a close up shot of her face but its so fast you can barely catch it)

Oooh, this?

You must have rewatched a bunch, lol.

But it’s so interesting, right! Within the show and outside it, the interviews with Devon show that she at least is not necessarily playing this as something romantic, and yettttt. Like, on those rewatches, you can seeee this growing curiosity and interest on her side as well! In the big subtext ships like SC or Faberry where we can point out scenes from, say, Lena or Quinn where there’s some intense gazing and it just feels romantic, but apparently not intentionally, but then you have something like this where it’s still subtext at this stage except for an eventually reciprocated canon ship. Just fun to consider and contrast all these. 😮

Did another rewatch of Episode 8 of TBH and Sterling is absolutely adorable in that whole episode. The one thing I relate to the most with her is the panicked/worried expression she gives April when she says to her “You thought that was nothing?” She doesn’t relax or breath until April says no then you see her breath out like “thank God it wasn’t just me who felt something”

Ooof, yeah, that moment where she just stops breathing and just braces herself:

Because maybe it was, maybe she’s making too much of it and it meant nothing to April or she’s not going to acknowledge it but phew, April admits it wasn’t nothing and then we get this moment of relief.

It’s like those moments in fic where people let out a breath they didn’t know they were holding. 😛

April “i want to ravage you” Stevens and Sterling “You could do that” Wesley would be perfect for the jealous trope, IF they are together. it’s very in character, and something good enough to add an one-episode-drama when they become this solidified, happy couple.

(Sort of follow-up to this ask.)

You’re right, you’re right, if they’re already together and it’s not like, a punishment, but instead a way for them to like Process conflict and come out stronger, for sure. It would be very fun to see how these two handle that…or anything.

If we do get a 2nd season, which I really hope we do! (and to the people reading this that haven’t yet please go watch TBH you won’t regret it) how do you think Blair’s relationship with April is going to change and vice-versa since they both know what’s up now

Oooh, that’s definitely one of the most interesting potential arcs for s2. Like honestly, even in this season, it felt like we didn’t get enough of a reaction from Blair when Sterling revealed they were hooking up. Like, April? April “good girl fellowship leader sex blackmailer whose father they put in jail” Stevens?? I know she was all caught up in the end of the season drama with her own fight with Sterling and Miles and the mama drama but that little reconciliation outside Bowser’s place when they were talking about Miles and Luke and April, how was she not like, okay, but how? When? Why? Sterling’s putting on lip gloss for APRIL STEVENS?

But anyway, I understand that pacing and the season arc had other demands. Fine. Now that it’s a new season, though, and she knows…I think even if initially she thinks April broke Sterling’s heart, that’ll be resolved quickly enough that they can give this new dynamic some time. Something so massive happened to Sterling, to Blair as well but at least her parents are still who she always thought they were. We don’t even know if Sterling will know who her father is. Both Blair and April’ll be on the outer edges of that, I think it’ll give them a chance to create an unlikely bond. Maybe not immediately but at some point in the season, I fully expect the two of them to hang out together without Sterling.

Like, I suppose it’d also be fun drama if it’s the three of them but I can’t see that happening immediately, except perhaps extremely awkwardly in school or maybe even church, with Sterling holding Blair back from going after April. For her part, I think April’ll try to keep up a bit of a front like before, probably more polite and with the knowledge that Blair now knows, maybe dropping it in her concern for Sterling. The worst thing would be for April to barely be included in the eps that focus on the family drama, but given the situation with her father, she still has a major part to play. Once she finds out, I think she’ll be mad at Blair, but most of her ire’ll be reserved for Sterling, who’s the one she actually counted on to be open with her.

Ideally, I’d like for a little friendship to form between them because, like, Blair is honestly the sweetest kid and April has had to put on this facade for so long and underneath is like any other kid. And both care about Sterling so much, they have this major thing in common right off the bat.

Just wanted to clarify, as I think I was one of the folks who talked about Sterling thinking this was all a trick by April- I wasn’t thinking that was ever actually the case, more wondering if that dark thought ran across Sterling’s mind when she saw April flirting with Luke. That their whole thing had been some twisted head game April played with her. Obviously that got cleared up later outside. But I think she coulda thought it was a possibility given they were enemies less than a week before.

Ah, I’m answering this so late all the relevant previous asks are weeks old by now, but yeah, I assumed the anon was referring to other comments out there? Your ask hadn’t come across as implying it was an actual trick, just the possible perception of.

And honestly, thinking more on it, since I just giffed the scene where Sterling leaves the lock-in, the way she’s legit angry and going, what’s wrong with you, there’s this genuine confusion at what exactly WAS going on, so it could definitely have been a fleeting possibility, not even necessarily that it was all a trick, but that April was playing weird mindgames with her, the April she knew a week ago wouldn’t have flirted with Luke either.
