What if Andy or Hughes gets pregnant and then goes to Carina… this way she would get more screen time and builds a relationship to the team.

Uh…that’s possible but that’s a way off for both of them at this point and the only other person…and I REALLY don’t want it to be her, lol. But really, I don’t want any of them to get pregnant, tbh, I was actually just discussing this with someone yesterday, how Miller has a kid and while it obviously does have an impact on his life and features in his storylines, for an actually pregnant firefighter, it’d be a very different thing. And while on a different show that might have been interesting to explore, this show…heh, nah.

Still…if it were Andy…that would be interesting and definitely an increase in screentime for Carina.

Something about Andy and Maya’s friendship has always felt a little hollow to me. Idk what it is, but they have never seemed very close. I liked their conversation in this episode a lot, though. Maya’s comments about how Carina is light(cute)/so good versus how she talked about herself might not come up again(I know how this show works now) really displayed how Maya sees herself. Made me a little sad. A different show would delve deeper and I would have loved to see that.

I get what you mean, because what we’ve seen on screen of them is usually to serve plot, so it’s mostly there for exposition or to be ruined for drama, but, there have been some great moments throughout, I can believe that off screen and especially before the show started, they had what we’re mostly now told is a good friendship. And I did really like the start of the return to something in the latest ep.

And yeah, gosh, the way Maya sees things…please, just send her to therapy, show. How did what she dropped to Tracie Thoms’s character not ring loud ass alarm bells?? Of course if she sees Carina as perfect and her as undeserving she’s always going to rush to sabotage things. A different show would do a LOT differently! But this is the one we’re watching, heh.

I choose to interpret Maya’s mom’s reaction in the office as “Ooh, sweetie, a DOCTOR!”

Haha, that’d be cute, but like, she really cycled through her being a firefighter in Maya’s team and then Maya’s doctor before she understood that she was Maya’s girlfriend.

And another anon:

Never got the sense that Maya wasn’t out to everyone but, the mom scene made me laugh. She was just so clueless. ‘Are you my daughter’s doctor?’ ha. But I agree that it was more ‘if X keeps you from running, then X is bad’ rather than pure homophobia from her father. I appreciated that Maya was just out and there was no discussion actually, sometimes it’s nice to see lgbt stuff be a non issue. Still want a (proper) meet the mom scene though!

For sure! I do appreciate how little angst surrounds her sexuality, there are so many kinds of LGBT people and stories out there. Like, Travis DOES have issues, and obviously Emmet, and other Grey’s characters have and some haven’t, that’s the benefit of lots of characters.

Definitely want more scenes with Maya’s mom, Maya really does need to make up with her and it’d be great to see Carina and her properly. Would also love to see Carina’s family… Would be nice for Maya and Andrew to meet, or at least on screen.

With the PRT no more now I’m really wondering what S19 wants with Carina. Part of me is starting to think S19/Shondaland promoted her just so they wouldn’t have to worry about her booking something else. I love Maya and S19 enough to keep watching with or without Marina, but I feel like this sucks for Stefania. She 100% said she didn’t want to be just the girlfriend and so far… Fingers crossed they give her more to do soon

Yeah, though as an I’m actor I’m sure she knows how it goes, I’m hoping it balances out, with more screentime in later eps or at least more on Grey’s.

And another anon:

I am actually quite curious what people were expecting from stefania being a regular on station? What would she do on the show? She’s a doctor, she has no place on a show about firefighters. I just assumed she would only be there as maya’s girlfriend. Some people think they may have her be a new PRT person with Ben but I don’t think I would want her to give up being an OB doctor just so she can get more screentime. I think it would be a disservice to the character especially because she’s so passionate about the profession.

Well, people had been floating around the PRT, though that’s over now, but there’s so much that could be done. They just have to think of her as a regular character and write stories about her sometimes instead of fitting her into others’. That’s the big difference to me.

They could have her stop by more often at the station, bring food, befriend the others, moonlight as a consultant on whatever because of covid, it doesn’t have to necessarily be realistic. Even if it’s just her and Maya, she could get to have a story about her brother and have Maya comforting her. I half expected her to get maybe the same amount of time on Station 19 but then more on Grey’s, but that’s not happening either. And really, even if it was just as Maya’s gf, more than a minute’d be nice.

I think, interestingly, having Andy move in with them is actually good for that? Because Andy will just always carry the majority of story and screentime with her, so Carina sharing that spotlight can only be a good sign.

And another anon:

Something I noticed. Carina seems to have a lot of respect for Bailey. It goes beyond than her just being her boss. They don’t share many scenes, not even on greys but I wish they would explore that.

I was like, what do you mean, one of the only interactions between them I’ve seen being where in the Grey’s premiere this season she kind of yelled at her, but right, right, the allusions to her boss and always paying attention to what she’s doing, right. And you’re right! I wish they would! Like, at the end of it, doctors or firefighters, this show is about personal relationships, so there’s always more of that if they want to write it.

This might have been discussed before. Sorry if you have answered this before. But is Maya out to her parents? Do they even know that Carina is her gf? When Maya’s mother helped with the spaghetti dinner she and Carina seemed to get along well but i don’t know if that means anything.

Um. I think she is, but I realize now I’m not sure? I might have just missed the ep where they revealed that, but from what I’ve observed, Maya’s attitude seems to imply her sexuality wasn’t an issue, it was more what her father considered a distraction or not. Like the flashback example in high school, it seemed more that anything taking away from track was what bothered him so it bothered her. Add to that his abuse and she was emotionally stunted and prioritized flings over relationships. Like, I’m sure her father was homophobic, not overtly but in how he saw women, and probably would have made snide remarks, but no relationship was probably serious enough for Maya to take anyone home. I assume, haha.

We did definitely see her mom realize Carina was Maya’s romantic something in the office and while her reaction wasn’t, omg, you’re bi, it did also take her several guesses to realize, so I also can’t tell if it wasn’t just omg, I learned something new about my daughter, I have to not make a big deal because she won’t like it.

I just don’t think we’ll get a coming out arc for Maya, is what I’m saying.

I caught up with Station 19 and I feel like Carina should work on the PRT. Having her go back and forth on Greys Anatomy is fine too but if she’s only on Station 19 when it’s time to be Maya’s girlfriend idk. I know the season just came back and they might have a plan for Carina but I have never watched Greys other than the episodes were they mesh and I don’t want to, lol. I just want them to give Carina things to do on Station 19 that aren’t Maya related!

For sure, for sure, it would suck on both a character and ship level if she was always and only defined by Maya.

I think we floated the idea that she worked on the PRT when we got the news she was a regular but it always seemed odd for an obgyn. The other thing we joked about was that they just have baby related emergencies on S19 every week and while there is one coming up I don’t think they really can do that…

I’m not sure what we’ll get aside from that, Maya and Carina at home every ep can’t be enough to justify regular status, right? I remember we also suggested that they may have just wanted to get her on contract to be available to both shows, that Grey’s might have had other actors it wanted to sign on for the season so S19 took Stefania, but she might still end up more on Grey’s? In the first Grey’s eps there was a lot of her but that was actually mostly last season’s footage in flashback form so……I guess we’ll see.

I only know about S19 from your edits, so I’m sure I’m missing parts, but how do you feel about the whole maya sleeping with another person thing? Doesn’t seem like it was resolved and now they’re moving in. But I guess nothings normal in covid times

Well, I hated it, and tbh, that kind of changed how I engaged with the ship. It was a huge reminder to put this into the “enjoy the good things while you can” pile instead of something to get invested in on a emotional level. There will be episodes where it’s going to be cute and consistent and then others where it’ll flip entirely for what the plot needs *cough*FILTHY RICH Ep 9*cough*

Even without covid, they might have moved in together quickly, just because the writers have to think of something to give them to do and this show will always lean toward what creates drama. But given that it is covid times, as you said, I don’t really think it’s that out there for these two, who can be already be impetuous but now would surely be happy for some solace as emergency workers during the start of a pandemic as well as some general companionship, aside from trying to get back to the makeup stage of their…physically affectionate relationship, heh.

Is it going to be problem-free, given how recent the cheating was and the added pressures of moving in and the pandemic? No, but they’ll get some good drama and processing of everything out of it, hopefully.
