I’m looking for a TV intern at Autostraddle dot com
Hey, y’all! I am looking for a personal/TV intern to help me make Autostraddle’s queer TV coverage EVEN BETTER.
What I can offer you:
I will mentor you in TV writing, social media/brand building, shopping out your work, interviewing celebrities, turning the storm in your brain into readable content, and other things I have mastered in my seven years of writing for the Lesbian Blogger Community.
I have mentored many aspiring TV writers who now get paid to type words about television!
What I need from you:
+ You gotta love queer women on TV. That’s gotta to be a real passion for you. If you understand the intricacies of fandom – and probably you do because you’re on Tumblr – that’s EVEN BETTER.
+ Five to six hours a week devoted to things like screencapping; basic Photoshop work; downloading promotional photos and materials; maybe contributing your writing to Boob(s On Your) Tube.
+ Reliability! You’ll be delivering photos and writing to me at least twice a week on a very firm deadline. No wiggle room. For real, for real. The work is going to take some time and some of it is going to be boring.
+ You need to know how to screencap, how to acquire TV shows online (I can help you learn this), how to do basic Photoshop things.
+ I need you to be a generally nice and fun lady person!
How to apply:
Send me an email (heather at autostraddle dot com)! Tell me why you want to partner with me on this and why you’d be awesome at it. Link me to any social media you want me to see.
People always ask me how to get into writing about TV for queer ladies. This is a good start!

I’ve just returned from Christian Taylor’s candlelight vigil, and his family does NOT want his face to be used as any page’s profile pictures, or have any sort of protests or rallies in his name, or have this made into discourse on racism (although his brother Adrian did state that “this law enforcement stuff is crazy and is happening every week”). they ask if you could not believe ANYTHING on the news or social media, and not spread anything unless it is directly from the family. they would like to remind everyone that NO ONE except the people who were there know what happened yet. please remember that this is a young man with many many dear friends and family, and we have literally just began mourning. we are all hurting. please do not turn an untimely death into immediate political discourse. remember to love each other and stay safe.
reblog this so the message can be spread, please
I mean. I can promise all except that he won’t become a part of the racial discourse. His death unfortunately doesn’t just belong to the family it belongs to the epidemic of modern day lynchings. And that is sad to say but extremely important.
Am I wrong? Please like feel free to tell me I’m wrong
So they want it hidden
no. they want people to give them time to grieve for their son and brother before everyone begins politicizing it. he lost his life. he was a son, brother, friend, confidante, encourager. the whole community is hurting, man. he’s not solely a hashtag or a headline, yanno? none of us even know anything but vague outlines. they just want to celebrate his life and have space to grieve.

warning for jumpscare in notifications
Tumblr is putting this “what are you afraid of” thing in your notifications on your dash. It’s an ad.
It goes to previews for a horror movie called Poltergeist and is 100% a screamer with creepy imagery and jump scares. Be warned. Thanks staff, not like epileptic/seizure disorder/mentally ill people are gonna suffer from that garbage at all. You continue to run the most abysmal and ill conceived website I’ve ever had the misfortune of liking.

Toronto Webseries Casting Trans Role
Hey tumblr. I’m putting out the bat signal re: something important to me, and I’d love if you could listen up and maybe boost the signal and help me out.
I’m in the middle of casting my new webseries The Soliloquies of Santiago in Toronto, and one of the roles we’re casting is a closeted pre-transition transwoman (18-24). The character when we meet them is living as a man, but won’t be by the end of the arc, and I promise – this won’t be another unhappy ending bit of tragedy porn. The character is a major supporting part, though not the lead, and the arc they go through belongs to them. I’d love to do that with a trans actor in the role. The role is paid and the actor would need to be nonunion.
We’ve seen some fantastic cis actors for the role so far, but we know how important it is to cast trans actors in trans roles. It’s tricky because the character is closeted, so if we have a trans actor in the role, it’d have to be pre-transition.
If you’ve ever looked as a trans character played by a cis actor and been angry or disappointed, please signal boost this. We know how important it is to cast trans actors in trans roles, but if we can’t find someone, we will have to cast this role with a cisgender actor.
If you know someone – or if you are a Toronto-based trans actor who fits the bill! – please email producer@santiagoseries.com and we can send you our casting breakdown with more details.
If you don’t know someone, if you’re completely detached from ‘the industry’ but still care about casting trans roles with trans actors, please reblog. The more you boost our signal the more chance we have to cast a trans actor in this role.
Also going to end this post with a question mark so people can ‘answer’. Here we go?
