Tor.com Call for Contributors: Fantasy Bloggers
Tor.com Call for Contributors: Fantasy Bloggers
Send us your pitches: We’re primarily looking for standalone articles and essays about fantasy fiction—that includes all epic fantasy, but also any major works that might be lumped into fantasy/fantasy-adjacent categories. We will also consider articles about current, upcoming, and potential film and television adaptations of fantasy books and stories. This is not a call for reread pitches: if you have an idea for a series of posts or a column, that’s great, but each article would have to stand on its own as an individual essay (not as part of a sequence of chapter-by-chapter installments).
-The main requirement is that you know your stuff inside and out: Whether you’re pitching a lighter list post or an in-depth essay, your writing should display a high level of familiarity with the source material, and you must be willing to do any quick research/fact-checking the piece requires.
-If possible, please submit 2-3 writing samples or links to your work along with your pitch(es). Regular blogging or previous writing experience will be considered a major plus.
-In the interest of promoting the widest possible range of perspectives, we strongly encourage pitches that explore issues of diversity and representation within the fantasy genre in terms of race, gender, religion, class, ability, etc., as well as submissions that bring an unconventional, unorthodox, or underrepresented point of view to bear on fantasy fiction.
-Articles would ideally be around 7oo-2500 words, depending on subject. Payment is per article.
Those interested should email TorcomFantasy@tor.com with pitches, writing samples, and questions.

Listen up.
Do yall know what’s going down in Bangladesh? It’s all over the news but if you don’t know, lemme explain:
Basically the government sucks and no one in this country follows any traffic rules, or laws for that matter. People paid to get drivers licenses without going through driving school, and most of them have no morals or patience once their vehicles hit the roads. It’s all ME FIRST. So obviously, there are a lot of road accidents per day across the country, amongst other things.
Now a few days ago there was an accident where a bus went to overtake another bus recklessly, and hit a group of students waiting by the side of the road in the process. At least 7 were killed, but the media announced 2 casualties.
The students have had enough.
For the last 5 days there have been protests all over Dhaka city, mainly in school/college areas. Students dressed in uniform, wearing IDs, chanting “We want justice!!” while parading the streets, that THEY CLEARED.
Yup. Since the law enforcers, police and traffic police can’t do their jobs right, these students of various institutions have taken matters into their own hands. They are taking on the role of traffic police, separating different vehicles into different lanes, and checking each vehicle for the legal documents and actual licenses. Some police officers and ministers didn’t have licenses, and the public knows now.
The students even made a separate emergency lane!! Half of my friends didn’t even know such a thing existed. That puts this country’s usual situation into perspective.
These kids are the heroes we need.
For the first time in many years, the roads have been clear with little road jam.
Except, this is a fight for rights against the government. We want to be able to walk to school or wherever we’re going in safety, without the fear that one random driver will take our life. Apparently that basic need is too much to ask.
Right now, there’s word that members of a bigshot political party are going to take to the streets tomorrow, to beat up protestors; girls and boys alike, of my age who are fighting for this noble cause.
It’s unfair.
I’m praying that they all stay safe, because this protest? It’s hella justified. Although 97% of this country is corrupted, it’s nice to see these people making an effort to change the twisted ways that have somehow become the norm. We’re on internaltional news right now, and maybe in the future, the country might get better.
For now though, this is what’s going on.

Safe Blogging Masterpost
Since Tumblr is purging fan accounts from every fandom I thought I’d make a master post of resources for safe blogging.
What we know so far:
- This started with Backgrid and Splash New using reverse image search through a third party to protect their photos.
- It was first limited to paparazzi photos, events, red carpets and set photos.
- However now it is rumored to be extended to other stuff like celebrity photoshoots etc.
- A better, proper explanation here.
FAQs:
- Rebloging is fine, only the original post will get flagged and deleted.
- You get three strikes for copyright infringement and then your blog gets terminated.
- If your main blog gets terminated, then all your sideblogs go, no matter if you are a member or an admin.
- If you get warnings for your sideblog then only the sideblog gets terminated.
- Notes or no notes, if you have posted anything from the above category, it will be flagged.
- It’s not limited only to the United States, it’s happening internationally.
- If your edit is a part of a larger graphic and different form the original offending photo you’re probably safe.
- It’s not limited to one fandom, everyone is being effected from Marvel, to Musicians, to WWE, EVERYONE.
Protective Measures:
- The best option so far is to delete any photos you posted (POSTED, not reblogged).
- Like I mentioned above it was limited to only paparazzi photos but now it’s rumoured to be extended to everything that was not posted by the celebrity themselves.
- If you’re very attached to your edit, changing the post to “private” may help (but probably not for very long.)
- This is an excellent post about how to buy some time to delete posts or to protect your blog.
- This website hides all of your reblogs so you can use it to see all your original post and delete the offending ones. (Also mentioned in the above post)
- You can also take a backup of your blog by going to tumblr.com/settings/blog/your url and clicking on Export at the bottom of the page.
- @captainevanss has answered many asks on this, please go through her blog before sending another ask, she has answered every possible question there is.
Future Blogging:
- If you post photos in future remember to save it as a new post and remove existing EXIF details before posting through third party apps (via @tessathompsson)
- Some excelent tips for future safe blogging
I’ll keep adding more info. Stay safe kids, hope you don’t get snapped!
