Do you ever feel like watching all the wlw content, but also don’t want to get burned again with bad content/writing? Cuz I hesitate to start new things and end up rewatching the same shows

I’ve been like that, sometimes, when something particularly shocking or egregious happens (2016, or that period this year with like four deaths in a week?) but I’m the opposite right now.

When things are going well, as they mostly have been recently, I love the feeling of seeing good new gay content and being validated like that. I want more of it, I watch even more things to try to find it again (which I understand is basically just chasing the high from a previous hyperfixation, but…there we are.)

And I really am very grateful to the shows that did well this year, Killjoys, Atypical, Juliantina, having that good ending to come back to is such a valuable reminder that there are talented people with resources who will, given the chance, actually do right by us. Because every particularly bad moment feels like the opposite, right, not just hurting a fictional character but a reflecting a world that at best is cruelly apathetic to our uniquely underrepresented and isolated status.

I’ll probably retreat like you did, though, when I hit a bad end on something nnew I’m particularly invested in, but for quite a few shows this season I’ve basically said to myself, I’m expecting something bad but until I get it, I’m going to enjoy as much of this ride as I can, because I have all those good experiences foremost at my back, and I actually haven’t been let down (except for freaking Harlots, which managed to kill the OTHER character, the one who I thought was surely safe). Obviously, this only works when shows end up surprising you, but somehow it’s been happening a fair amount, and the very knowledge that it’s that rare makes everything it even better. Hopefully, it’ll happen more and more often, and in more and more shows. Being able to jump into something else after a disappointment and dilute my investment in any one particular show has been really helpful too.

Nikki and Nora, it used to be on you tube so it might still be there. But if not, I just saw it on tellofilms if anyone wants to pay for it. It’s some sort of crime procedural.

Oh, right, so this is for the procedural anon.

The second series of Deutschland 83 (Deutschland 86) has an f/f couple! Both are main characters with their own storylines, both are alive at the end of the season, and there are other LGBT characters and storylines too. It’s one of my fave shows and I’d highly recommend it.

Ooh, yes! So this is for the German anon, although it is a spy show, so maybe procedural anon will find something interesting in it too. Lenora is also in the first season but no f/f.

Hand aufs Herz was a German soap that was on TV a lonngggggg time ago, and it’s honestly a dramatic mess but it does have a very touching wlw storyline in it. Emma and Jenny, the clips are likely out and about on the internet. Viel Glück, und viel Spaß!

For German anon. Also, there’s been some storylines on Rote Rosen, which I guess is also a German soap?

Is rookie blue a procedural? I never watched it but i remember it being popular in wlw circles a while back

Oh, of course! Yes, Gail and Holly, Gail being a main.

Los hombres de Paco but uh. don’t watch the end of their story

Ah, right, yes, Pepsi. Definitely be careful about how far you watch on that one.

I feel like there are more, I’m just…maybe there just aren’t. Like, the long cop mainstays, not any L&O, not any of the Criminal Minds or CSI or other NCIS flavors…I don’t know every one of them and most got cancelled eventually, there might have been a character somewhere in there, but Tammy Gregorio on NCIS: New Orleans is by fair the most visible of them. Nothing for Hawaii Five-0, Chicago PD, I mentioned the bi character on SWAT, she had a date once, and then was in a poly f/f/m thing, I think, but I don’t know how long that went. Not the “fun” ones like Mentalist, Castle, Psych, Monk, Sherl–oh, god, they did that thing with Irene Adler, nothing for Elementary unless I’m forgetting? Oh, The Bridge had Adriana and Lucy and of course The Tunnel had Elise and…Eryka, but wouldn’t watch the third season of that either. Hmm. Still not many.

Any quick recs for police procedurals with f/f relationships?

Uh, now that you’ve put me on the spot, my mind is blank, I can’t think of anything, anon! Um. Dead End, that short German show? NCIS: New Orleans has some eps with one of the main characters, a lesbian, in a little something. What else…this isn’t really the genre with a lot. SWAT has a bi character but I don’t think there’s been a lot of ongoing f/f for her. LA’s Finest, Gabrielle Union’s character is bi but again, not much ongoing.

I’m sorry, anon, I don’t know many at all. Maybe someone else can answer?
