A lot of news on Tumblr about recent tragedy that has been happening is hours old, and a lot of the actions because of it are distorted too. So here’s links to clear up a lot of these things:

Japan – No immediate reports of injury/damage in Japan. Tsunami advisory was lifted 90 minutes after being put in place. Also reported there was also no threat of a Tsunami from the quake. 2011 was the year when a Tsunami killed 18,000 people, not this year.  (x) (x)

Mexico – They are fine. No reports of immediate damage/injury. (x)

Paris – Eiffel Tower turns it’s lights of every night to save electricity, the GIF of it going dark dates back to January. If the lights went off for victims of yesterday’s attack then at the time, the attack would’ve still been happening. (x)

Donald Trump – Let me make this clear; I am not defending him here, this is to clear up something. His disgustingly gross tweet about gun control in Paris dates back to the Charlie Hedbo attack. (his real tweet from last night is included but he’s still scum) (x) Although his tweet about boming oil fields, and people not laughing about the idea now was last night which is disgusting to try and make some kind of joke/comment about that.

“Not Afraid” Photos – Those photos date back to January when the Charlie Hebdo attack happened. (x)

Tumblr isn’t a trusted news source for these recent events, and past events aftermaths. Go to the BBC, Associated Press, Reuters for trusted news of current situations in Paris especially.

Ps- I wanted to help THIS post out too with spreading some reliable information 

And to add in since I’ve seen a post about it, there is something going on in South Korea and here’s the most recent article I’ve found on it. Protesters have been assaulted by police with tear gas and water cannons. A post I saw mentioned people being killed but so far nothing confirmed that that I’ve seen.

so apparently lj has been deleting and/or deactivating accounts that have no activity for a certain amount of time (5 years?), so if you don’t want that, you might trying logging in for posterity’s sake.

help your friends/followers receive word about safety
during this wave of neo-Nazi cyberbullying, please do so.  This warning is now officially in effect for all POC, Muslims, and other groups likely to be targeted by White supremacists, in addition to Jews and Rroma.

This
includes neo-Nazi URLs to block and things to do to avoid being exposed
to triggers.  There have been a number of these fucks using the submit
feature to send graphic gore and threatening violence in any way they can.  This has been happening with increased frequency since
Yom HaShoah, the Jewish day of mourning for those we lost in the
Holocaust.

At minimum–and we should not have to do this, but staff is doing jack shit to protect us–all Jewish, Rromani, and otherwise at-risk users should take the following precautions:

1) Turn off anonymous asks

2) Turn off the options to submit photos, videos, or audio

3) Block the following users–

Keep an eye out for the crossed-out URLs as they may resurface. Do NOT hoard inactive URLs.

I’m
not sure how many of these blogs are actively harassing people, but better safe than
sorry.  I do NOT advise looking at their pages, only blocking them and
reporting them. They may have viruses, among other things.

White supremacists.  Even if we successfully remove the current
harassers, this may happen again unless we take action to change the
status quo.

While you are worrying about whether beta readers will steal your ideas, there is a more genuine threat on the horizon.

When offered a publishing contract, please do all your research before you sign. There are a number of fakes and scammers out there, as well as good-intentioned amateurs that don’t know how to get your work to a wide audience. I won’t tell the heartbreaking stories here – there are too many.

Being published badly is worse than being never published.

It can destroy your career and your dreams.

The quick check is to google the publishing house name + scam or warning.
