All I keep seeing is the word magnum and juliantina and before I fully grasped what people were talking about, my dumbass was wondering why they had them in character to advertise condoms…
Hah, perhaps a bit early for Mexico to be talking about certain lesbian safe sex practices.
i haven’t seen the actual magnum commercial itself but that’s like freakin amazing how huge juliantina grew in such a short time. what i’d like or hope to see is if magnum has purchased more commercial airtime for the future such as during the finale on sunday night or even in other time slots. i think that will indicate how much mexico (at least companies in mexico) want to normalize gay relationships and change public opinion
Oh, well, that’s a good point. I assumed it’d air at other times, who would make a commercial to air it just once, not even during the last ep. Lol, now everyone in Mexico can play “catch the lesbian Magnum ad”.
We even got the signature “Val shoulder lean and smiling Juliana” for a personal touch and just in case anyone missed it. Also is not the first gay commercial Magnum does, I aint that surprised, they’ve always been good like that. I mean it is amazing for Mexico, but Magnum is big enough to pull it off/get away with it
I SAW. It was so cute.
You’re right, they’ve done it before, in Australia, where there was a backlash and it was reported to media watchdogs. And then they did one in Mexico (albeit, obviously less overt but still undeniable for anyone who’s aware of pop culture).
After Televisa’s splashing Juliantina around online and news sites picking up on it and interviewing them, this is the next major step in proving their popularity. The first things, you can say that they were looking for some easy hits and the novelty factor, but this is pure capitalism, Magnum wouldn’t have picked them if they didn’t think they’d be worth it.
i think it hasnt downed on people yet how HUGE it is that magnum chose Juliantina for a commercial in the prime time of the second to last episode of the most watched novela in Mexico a super traditional country. I mean they didnt choose Lucia and Jacobo they chose the GAYS. in Mexico in Mexico
I’m actually still only beginning to absorb the enormity of it myself, as well. I made a joke about it but…yeah, like, I was literally talking yesterday to a friend about how, as much as they flash Juliantina all over their social media and online presence, TV has been a different matter. But this was a TV commercial! And yes, during a penultimate episode of a super popular telenovela. There’s no way the viewers will see them and not think, oh, it’s the lesbian couple.
Magnum’s thought process?? This couple is so popular, we’re going to treat them the way other companies treat A list celebrities and mega sports stars.
