26 Favorite Femslash Moments of 2014
21. House of Cards – Lisa and Rachel(No spoilers for the third season.)
This show does not have many happy moments, especially for characters whose last name is not Underwood. Rachel is like one of the smallest players and one of the unhappiest, a sex worker whose client, a minor politician at the time, gets stopped for a DUI while she’s in the car. But he becomes a pawn in a game Frank Underwood is playing, and thus, Rachel’s silence is needed. Thankfully, that just comes in the form of money, and she’s bundled off to live protected and watched by Underwood’s chief of staff. As everyone else is manipulating and blackmailing each other, Rachel’s settling into a quiet life and meets nice Lisa on the bus. Despite internally rolling her eyes at Lisa’s invitation to her church, she ends up going and enjoying herself, joining in and generally developing a good friendship.
When Lisa has problems at her place, Rachel lets her stay and well, after a bit, the scene above happens. It’s not the most romantic thing, nor the culmination of weeks and months of slow burn, but it is one of the purer, cleaner, happier moments on the show, between two of the nicer people.
