The wilds was well wild haha but I really liked it! Hope it gets a season 2 and still focus on all the girls, cuz all of them are great. The way you get attached to every single girls some more than the others (Fatin FTW!) but you are in the end rooting for all of them. Also loved the buildup between Shelby and Toni! Wish we could have seen more… I’m so so hoping for a S2!

Lol, it was wild. And definitely, we spent all this time on getting to know these girls, I don’t want a perspective shift at all! And truly, the way you get to learn and care about all of them even with their very different backgrounds and stories and ways of handling things, nobody being 100% perfect or 100% awful, you truly did want to root for them all. So many different friendships and dynamics, even aside from the two sisters, the two best friends, and then the two lovahs. 😛

I am SUPER curious about what happened from that last kiss to the interviews… And there’s so much plot left, how’re they going to escape, how’re they going to expose them, what will their families do, etc. I do hope Toni/Shelby are still a thing in s2, as well. 😮

Do you know if anyone has Conspiracy Whiteboarded out exactly what moment that beside manner photo was from? We know the bit of Dani asking about who will bury Diego and her dad was a reshoot, but I *think* I see a potato chip bag in the background?

Oh, hmm, this one?

I don’t see any potato chips, that’s a phone, isn’t it? One of those old landline ones? I think it might have been before Sarah returned with the ice? So like this moment of peace between just her and Grace without terminators or pharmacists or Sarah or even Grace’s own very focused active energy when she’s awake. Once the ice had melted and Grace had cooled down, Dani was already locked out.

oooooofff dani/grace had such big queen/knight vibes and god what a waste,, mackenzie davis looking like That, Time Travel Romance, all the Love and Devotion and Protection, who are the gays behind the scenes who did this and why did the straights waste it??

Haha, I knowwww. God, I’m really upset about what it could have been, when so many ingredients for true greatness were already there. It absolutely was a queen/knight dynamic, like, literally it was soldier/general but imbued with a whole lot of extra emotion on both sides that just…weren’t maternal! At all???

But really, like…these movies are about the resilience of humans, right, grounding that love and concern for everyone in the love between individuals specifically. Kyle and Sarah and the John they both carried in their minds, a commander and an unborn son, then John and Sarah and the 101 even, so like, you need that love in TDF too. And faux-parental bonds are difficult to create! Especially over the length of a few days. T2 used the whole movie to build it up with a literal child, lonely and with no father at all and who had conflicted feelings about his seemingly unreliable mother, now able to trust entirely in this “adult”.

Was TDF trying to tell us that when the end of the movie happened, that the younger person, Dani, had MATERNAL feelings for Grace? That’s what we were supposed to buy to make it more emotionally effective? No! In what world would that work? And surely not the reverse, that this adult–a new adult, but an adult to be sure, with a nice father two days ago was like, Grace is my mom? Please. So then, at most, Dani is grieving for Grace as her protector, someone she realizes she sent back and who selflessly died for her. Nice, but hardly comparable to what they did in the first two.

Apparently the excuse is that they didn’t want the audience to guess that Grace knew Dani before? But like…why the hell not? Why on earth would they actually want to keep that a surprise, how did it add anything at all to the movie? Oh, you thought this was just an ordinary soldier, but it was…a soldier she knew. Wowww. Because nobody’s buying “oh, it was actually her daughter”, neither acted like that at any other point in the movie, including after, lmao. *sigh*

Instead, they could have leaned into it and had these two women, falling in love in different timelines and loops again and again, both fighting to shift time and history the smallest bit a time to keep the other safe. They coulda done that!!! They could have made the end that much stronger, that it was Dani’s love Grace dying, and gone to the next step from T1 and T2 in the way that this was BOTH of them shifting time again and again, knowing the results and working to get to an apocalypse-free timeline. It would have made for a much tighter, more focused movie that justified returning to the franchise after all these years.

i felt like i was the only one watching big sky!!! the second cassie and jenny started arguing i was like dump the dude and makeout already!!!! the show is hard to take 70% of the time(when the cop said some women have outward facing ‘thingamagoos’ lol)but im enjoying it for what it is. i don’t think they’ll go there but i really hope they do

Haha, right, pull a Korrasami, please, but uh, I guess certain things were taken care of already. It IS tough to watch at times and just kind of…sillier than I think it was maybe written to be, but mostly I’m just scared for the three girls in the box and THEN I hope these two hook up. I also don’t think they’ll go there but they miiight.

Is so sad how words like toxic and torture are used by fandoms to hate characters and characters actions.

Yeah…I do get how annoying and just inaccurate it can be, especially when they’re used, it feels like, in service of personal biases and ships but I feel it’s also an inevitable side effect of people mainly learning about these things in the same exact place where they’re participating in fandom. And that goes for a lot of “social justice” matters, which is how you’ll see people fighting over the superiority of their ship because of how Progressive it is.

So I feel…yes, I hope people do learn to apply some goddamn nuance and good faith and self-awareness, but I also don’t think it’s entirely horrible that people are thinking more about this kind of thing in general. It’s better to learn at all, right. It just…how is it not spilling into its own toxicity, you know, where every little action and mistake is scrutinized and never forgiven. 😡

I actually enjoyed Shelby + Toni, especially the final scene they had together because it was so soft. You felt a huge amount of growth when they reached that the moment because Toni was being so calm about everything because for once she was being the optimistic one out of the two of them. I’m interested to see what happens with them if further seasons are commissioned (let’s be honest, with how it ended you’re gonna need more than more season to unpack all of that!). We know they both survive the island (although that ending ?). So presumably there will some sort of written progress for their relationship (something implied when they thought Shelby wanted to see Toni). I will say, I’m not a big fan of the fact that there is a boy island. I get the idea behind it as being something that will fail, aka a Lord of The Flies type presentation. But I just feel at that point there will be too many characters that some will then get lost (whether killed off or screen time reduced).

Yeah, as I’ve always said, even the scenes that aren’t Romantic are still part of the ship and dynamic, and they had a lot of scenes even before…you know.

And you know, I’m not sure if Toni was entirely optimistic so much as fatalistic, but I guess it’s the same in those circumstances. I really do want to see what happened between that and the interviews, including the whole rescue?? But Shelby changed quite a bit, so what else happened? And where’s Martha?

There’s definitely lots of content for another season, even without the boy island. Which! I don’t think it will fail, I think the point of the show is that girls/women aren’t different or Better, excepting socialization. But yes, I don’t really want to see that side of things, it can be a plot point out there but I don’t want the characters integrated like this set. As you said, that would be too many in all and too many new dynamics. I watched for these girls and now I’m invested in them, as much as I’m sure there will be interesting plots for random boys, I don’t really care that much, heh.

I know you’re probably snowed under with Happiest Season stuff, but I loved it and I just wanted to highlight one of the things I really loved – I loved how the movie made sure to show us how physically affectionate Harper is and wants to be. It’s just right, not too weird and porny, but not desexualised either – it’s soft and sweet with just the right dash of thirsty. She craves contact with Abby all the time, and you can see it even when she’s keeping up her Straight Face. A+

A bit snowed under, a bit. 😛

But yes! At the start and up till the effective turning point deliberately brought on by her parents almost catching her in Abby’s bed, she was extremely loving and affectionate, she was in love with her girlfriend and showed it, that’s all. It was nice and really provide a bunch of moments of them in the first half.

I’ve noticed that Maya tends to immediately apologize whenever Carina calls her out. It’s just something that’s stood out to me. I agree that the I Love You seemed more for Maya, especially with how she said it and what we know she feels about Carina in her space. My other observation is that a lot of people seem to want Maya to go to therapy. What do you think about that? I’m on the fence.

Yeah, actually, you’re right, so maybe that isn’t really a sign of growth, heh, though it’s a…nice thing in itself, I guess.

Now that I think about it, that’s effectively been their whole relationship, Maya reacts badly to something, Carina calls it out, Maya apologizes, Carina accepts, they make out. I wish Carina had the space to react badly, the screentime and plot arc, really, like, I’ve said this before–or maybe I said it’s easy to love a character who’s only allowed to be perfect, but in the same vein, it’s easy to be perfect when you don’t get the opportunity to be anything else.

To be clear, I love her, I love her kindness and goodness and willingness to forgive and fight for those she loves, but she’s not really making the CHOICE to do so, right? Doing anything else would require them to actually give her that screentime. Like in this last ep, she’s just like, don’t be sorry. Why not?? But if she had the time and was still like, nope, I get that you react like this for a reason and that you regret it so I’ll move past it and instead am going to focus on this other stuff, that’d be quite different, right. Versus just, welp, my minute for this ep is up, we gotta resolve this and move on.

And yes, lol, 100% Maya should be going to therapy! I know this show loves doing exposition drops through friends ranting to each other, but as that one post said, therapy isn’t just talking. Your friends can’t provide you everything that therapy does, and like, you don’t need to have severe issues to go, you can be fine and go to get in the habit of talking things out and figuring out coping methods and basically to stay fine, but Maya’s issues ARE severe! Her friends and partner can’t give her what she needs for figuring how to unlearn her whole LIFE before now, there’s so much she has to deal with. And abuse like that doesn’t affect just one thing, it’s not just one area of her life, it’s who she is as a person, there’s nothing left untouched that’s her alone. She absolutely should be going, yes.
