They get exactly the treatment you’d want. Before they’ve even properly met, they’re trading curious, lingering looks. Despite a fast-paced heavily mythological plot, the show pulls them again and again into each other’s orbits. When Sofie is thrown into the lake as part of a hazing ritual above, it’s Emilie who comes to her rescue in this big showy epic uber romantic scene. As the everything becomes darker and more twisted around them, they seem to provide the show’s only light, sweet moments, carrying on a tentative courtship, each seemingly bold but carrying their own secrets. And as the season ends, we find out they really are the star-crossed lovers on whom possibly everything hinges.
