I liked that Maya spoke so frankly about her feelings but I wanted to see her speak to Carina about those feelings too…

Definitely! If the one way Carina is getting screentime is with Maya, why not give a bit of that story to her? Or have all three talk together, since Andy’s living with them?

Like, it can be interesting, where Maya’s so afraid to turn into her dad with Carina and is afraid to talk to her about it, doesn’t want to scare her off, and goes to Andy instead, and then as soon as she gets home and one small thing doesn’t go her way, she does get (a little) mad, like that’s an interesting coherent story! But then to not see the aftermath of that explored with Carina, then that feels like the arc’s incomplete, right. Carina shouldn’t need that whole explanation for why the kitchen’s like that, they both deserve to be able to talk out why Maya acted like that in the first place.

What would you like to see Carina do if it was up to you? I always felt dumping her on the PRT was a bit of a reach but it would have been an easy way, especially with the pandemic storyline, to add her to the main cast. I agree that character wise, Carina has always seemed really into being an OB so it would be a big change. I wish they’d just promoted her on Grey’s Anatomy and brought her on Station 19 for medically relevant episodes and character/relationship development but oh well.

Yeah, a promotion on Grey’s and then personal story time overlapping both shows, with Maya appearing on Grey’s as much as Carina appeared on Station 19 would be the way to go. But barring that, the show doesn’t seem to have the budget or inclination to do what I’d prefer, which is Carina getting as much screentime and story as Travis and Dean and Jack and the rest, so those pockets of their personal life that we see, that should be Andrew and her job. it’s tough to do that kind of juggling and I don’t think they really want to, just devoting a whole part of Station 19 to the Grey’s world and not in the context of the PRT like with the other doctors that guested.

Right now they’re treating Carina as an extension of Maya’s allocation of personal time and it’s obviously not enough for a whole character. You’d think combined they’d get more, even IF it were just shippy, let alone her own time, but…I dunno, maybe they had plans that got scrapped from covid, maybe they don’t have the resources to create both fire situations as well as obgyn situations. But it’s going to be a bummer if we finish 4a with hardly any of her.

No lie, I want Marina scenes to be longer and have more depth than just being cute and hopefully that comes later in the season now that the plot points from S3 are good (Pruitt funeral resolution, Andy’s mom, Sullivan’s addiction/trial, introducing Covid), but man, Danielle and Stefania have such a comfort with each other that those 30-60 second cute scenes make me so happy. They are so natural with each other and not afraid to touch each other. It’s a nice change to see on TV.

I mean, I think even with the resolution of those s3 arcs, Marina and specifically Carina could have had more story, the writers don’t seem to see her as a regular yet, like could you imagine her getting the amount of story the non-Andy characters get even? I get that the rest of the characters are a close-knit unit, she can’t exactly slot in easily as even another friend, nor even would she necessarily want to, being their boss’s gf (I almost said wife, heh), but this is also a fictional show where the firefighters are the leads, she’s gonna have to be more about them in some way or another.

But yes, yes, they are SO comfortable and easy with each other, it’s pretty amazing every ep that no like, awareness or self-consciousness or awkwardness is suddenly going to creep in, it’s just SO natural. But yes, I love it. 🙂

Something about Andy and Maya’s friendship has always felt a little hollow to me. Idk what it is, but they have never seemed very close. I liked their conversation in this episode a lot, though. Maya’s comments about how Carina is light(cute)/so good versus how she talked about herself might not come up again(I know how this show works now) really displayed how Maya sees herself. Made me a little sad. A different show would delve deeper and I would have loved to see that.

I get what you mean, because what we’ve seen on screen of them is usually to serve plot, so it’s mostly there for exposition or to be ruined for drama, but, there have been some great moments throughout, I can believe that off screen and especially before the show started, they had what we’re mostly now told is a good friendship. And I did really like the start of the return to something in the latest ep.

And yeah, gosh, the way Maya sees things…please, just send her to therapy, show. How did what she dropped to Tracie Thoms’s character not ring loud ass alarm bells?? Of course if she sees Carina as perfect and her as undeserving she’s always going to rush to sabotage things. A different show would do a LOT differently! But this is the one we’re watching, heh.

I choose to interpret Maya’s mom’s reaction in the office as “Ooh, sweetie, a DOCTOR!”

Haha, that’d be cute, but like, she really cycled through her being a firefighter in Maya’s team and then Maya’s doctor before she understood that she was Maya’s girlfriend.

And another anon:

Never got the sense that Maya wasn’t out to everyone but, the mom scene made me laugh. She was just so clueless. ‘Are you my daughter’s doctor?’ ha. But I agree that it was more ‘if X keeps you from running, then X is bad’ rather than pure homophobia from her father. I appreciated that Maya was just out and there was no discussion actually, sometimes it’s nice to see lgbt stuff be a non issue. Still want a (proper) meet the mom scene though!

For sure! I do appreciate how little angst surrounds her sexuality, there are so many kinds of LGBT people and stories out there. Like, Travis DOES have issues, and obviously Emmet, and other Grey’s characters have and some haven’t, that’s the benefit of lots of characters.

Definitely want more scenes with Maya’s mom, Maya really does need to make up with her and it’d be great to see Carina and her properly. Would also love to see Carina’s family… Would be nice for Maya and Andrew to meet, or at least on screen.
