Apparently Away was top 10 in 30 countries!! The showrunner said that we’ll probs know about a renewal by mid October. I don’t think COVID will be a big issue for cancellation cause the showrunner said that their show actually works for COVID cause they can just have the people on the Atlas quarantine together the only problem would be the mission control scenes. Plus the showrunner said they’re optimistic about renewal and the actors in the show don’t seem to be committed to any other projects

Yeah, Away was relatively quite popular. And that does make sense, the Mars stuff is isolated, but you know, the mission control and flashback scenes aren’t insignificant. And I don’t know that I would want them to cut down on those just for convenience (except the kid’s). But in the end, I’m good as long as we get plenty of Lu and Mei. 😛

It’s almost mid-October now, I guess we’ll be hearing about it soon.

Do you think Netflix will cancel Away too and saying it was because of covid?

It’s certainly possible, but it did really well, in the US and abroad, and they seem to be giving it more of a push, much more than TBH got, I would be surprised if they did. But then, I was honestly kinda surprised at TBH’s…not cancellation, necessarily, but its treatment, the lack of support behind it. The cancellation itself seemed almost logical given how they’d been treating it from the start. Though still surprising and sad when it came.

If I’m being honest I don’t agree that Lu and Mei’s storyline was only in episode 3 their storyline was in all the episodes where Lu talked about Mei with someone becuz I feel that that really informed their storyline too. The way that Lu talked about Mei to other people and how even at the end of the season Lu wanted Mei reinstated. Plus I consider the scenes they had before their relationship was revealed as part of their SL too cuz that showed their dynamic in public

Oh, I do agree, the couple of scenes in ep 2 with Mei speaking to Lu as CAPCOM and seeing Lu so reverential and emotional when others bring up Mei, that’s part of them, but while I usually encourage people to watch full shows to see interactions and character behavior outside the ship because I think the experience is enhanced, I couldn’t really justify suggesting the whole other 9 eps just for those few scenes. Not when it’s so little and there are so many scenes without even Lu.

Of course, if they want to watch from the start, that’s great, I’m not really speaking to them so much as the people who are reluctant to start at all or continue past ep 1, I think ep 3 is still worth the try, or even better, All the Lillies’ cut which includes scenes past it.

Do you ever think about the fact that Mei had one piece of Lu to keep with her (the slip of paper with “I love you” written on it), and that got taken away from her? Just something I personally think about a lot.

I didn’t! I didn’t even think about that. ;_; I was assuming she’d have other things of Lu’s but they practiced at Lu’s place, there’s no reason Mei would have taken anything else from there, she would never have thought she’d lose this. Gosh, in her little apartment, she must have felt so alone and even a little scared, cut off from everything, gossiped and whispered about, because of course the rumors spread so fast even freaking Jack heard them.

She must have wondered what Lu would think after the CAPCOM position was replaced, whether she’d be worried or if the attraction of space and Mars together with time and distance would have put this thing with Mei behind her as some kind of temporary emotional fling. So glad Lu got through to her because it was absolute proof of her devotion, she could absolutely work out for herself the effort Lu would have put to get that one private call. And now she’s going to have to hold it close and live off of it for two and a half years…

How do you feel about the other storylines in Away? Especially the last few episodes. To me, the story bits focused on Emma and Ram’s relationship before/after they went on the spacewalk was kind of cheap storytelling just to keep the show/drama going.

I’m trying not to be too vocal about it but I was just not a general fan of Ram at all. I was already rolling my eyes at his “oh, I’m a womanizer, aren’t I so naughty, but ACTUALLY I just don’t want to get too close to people because of my tragic past” characterization but the way he then handled the Lu/Mei gossip? Nahhhh. And his selfishness in telling Emma, “I needed you to know”, right, right, YOU needed it.

Having said that, it feels like the main point of the show IS this kind of drama, the Mars journey is just to facilitate it. Like, I was rolling my eyes at getting both Emma/Ram AND Melissa/Matt, but that feels like more their main priority than the space stuff. Everything they do, Ram’s mono, the lack of water, Misha’s blindness, it’s not about the space aspect but how it’ll affect the characters and their dynamics. Which, super not my thing, but again, that’s how we got Lu/Mei, soooo, I can’t be super mad about it. Like, not every show has to be my thing. It never set out to be a space thriller, the posters and trailer were accurate, it’s a Lifetime/Hallmark series set in space. I’m sure for the people who want that, it fed them.

that scene where Mei gave Lu that ring, DAMN. IT REALLY HIT ME IN THE FEELS. it really means something on another level when you actually speak the language. Really glad netflix did that :’) (still on ep6 and kinda sad that there won’t be anymore scenes with Mei in it)

Ohhh, you’re so luck you got to understand them! God, it was SO GOOD. And it took my dumbass so long to realize, “holding up (half) the sky” and the ship name, Atlas. LIKE THAT LEVEL OF THOUGHTFULNESS. And the fact that Mei did it knowing and expecting NOTHING, just continuing these lessons with no hope for ANYTHING, only just helping and respecting and loving Lu. ;_; Really, really need them to meet again and get a happy ending.
