Patsy is torn apart by the life that she almost, but not quite, had.
The Delia in hospital isn’t her Delia.
She goes on living simply because her heart is still beating. It’s how she lived in the camps and it’s how she lives now.She toys with the idea of befriending Delia again, starting all over from scratch, trying to recapture what they had, but it hurts too much to know that all her happiest memories have been wiped from Delia’s consciousness- all their nights spent talking, their secret stolen kisses, their shared laughter and tears might as well have never happened.
