I just finished memory of empire. Whew it took me forever to get thru the first like 50 pages, but it was a good read once it got going. But!!!! The ending left me so sad!!! I loved the dynamic bt Mahit/Three Seagrass the entire story, but then the ending was disappointing for me. Asdfghjkl. There’s a sequel tho, right? I need more. And Three Seagrass embroiled in whatever comes next. I thought I was getting ride-or-die vibes the whole book lol. Thanks for the rec.

Ah, as always, sorry this took so long. Still making my way through all these, although who knows if people even care about the answers at this point.

¯_(ツ)_/¯

The ending did feel abrupt! But I saw it as setting up the sequel. I can’t imagine that Three Grass isn’t going to feature in it? But I don’t even know what the sequel will be about. It’s been a while since I read Memory of Empire but she was returning to her home but there was still unease, right, some mystery power outside their border and capable of threatening the whole empire? So surely she’ll be back with the main Teixcalaan powers at some point. You don’t keep the POV character away from important Events. Unless they change the POV character…

I don’t remember so much from the first book, I’m going to have to reread it before the sequel comes out…all the way next year. It got delayed all the way from March 2020 to March 2021. 😡

I’ve finally finished reading A Memory Called Empire, and wow! It’s a fantastic book, really enjoyed it! The last half was amazing and I loved so many characters! Thank you for reccing it!!

Ah, I’m glad you were able to get through that dense, intimidating start! It really is such a pretty book behind all that. The setup was a lot, I know, but once that was all done, I loved how smoothly it flowed.

I’m happy you liked it and thanks for letting me know! Only a year and 20 days to wait for the sequel!

aa!! i got a memory called empire from your giveaway and im in love!! but also these names are all so wack. anyway I just wanted to say thank you so much for doing this, i never would have been able to actually get the book unless i waited until christmas and by then there would be 100 more books and ive been so excited to read it and im so grateful for you and the giveaway

Oh, wow, I’m so glad you were the person who won, then! You’re totally welcome, I just find it a fun way to engage with books I like. I hope you enjoy it, it was a book I liked the simple reading of, not just to get to a reveal or the end.

The names are super weird, right?? But you get used to the Number Noun format eventually, at least, if only because they’re at least familiar words. I found the Stationers’ names harder to remember. But the writing is so clear about context, you’re never confused for long. And I totally forgot to mention this but my gosh, the level of linguistics and literature work and research that went into this! In a way, the consistency that comes from that makes it easier to remember too.
