Thanks for getting me absolutely hooked on the angst fest that is Kana. I love reading your tags! It seems they’re trying to keep the angst at 1000% and certainly going to drag it out longer than I even anticipated after seeing tonight’s eps. Also wondering with Corries 100 characters that the thing that’s going to come up short are the transitions? I feel like any time they want the story to take a turn it’s just a drastic shift, while the juice of the storyline seems pretty well developed

Yeah, it definitely seems like the rotated screentime makes some storylines move in fits and jerks. Especially with them being fairly lower-level characters. Rana in particular, who is really at the center of this story for all the things she is and all the people she pulls into this, has had some really long gaps in screentime, though Bhavna’s a champ and covers for that masterfully.

Overall, I think we do get an okay picture of things, even if we have to massage our headcanons a bit.

Oh, and you’re welcome. 😀 A great time to be watching, eh.

Hello me again. Yes, there was a shot hair young lady with baldwin in the trailer. Maybe someone random. I did see her with clare, they have like bedscene. BTW really like ur analysis, precise and elaborate, always enjoyable to read.

Aw, thanks anon, but really, I should apologize, you came to me with a show you liked and I just blurted out all the things I didn’t like about it. Rude!

Sorry, where was this scene with Clare?? Did I miss it? I thought I watched the first two eps pretty carefully… I saw the scenes where Clare did fairly intimately examine and treat Baldwin’s wound but beyond that?

Do you think Zee would ever physically hurt Rana?

Where’s that coming from?? No. I think Zee the character we’ve seen wouldn’t even be outing Rana, tbh, but like a whole bunch of things on soaps, I handwave that as something meant to progress the plot and set up new dramatic arcs and which they’ll eventually walk back on.

But hitting her would be a step too far for even angry Zee. The optics of it alone, Rana being tiny, Zee a Muslim man, nah. I replied to the anon who said the outing made Zee look so bad by downplaying its effects, but this would make him look extremely terrible. And there aren’t even any plot reasons for it, why do the outing if this was gonna happen? And surely that’d open up its own new arc of domestic violence, which I don’t think we’ve seen any signs of.

They’re really putting a lot of work into making zee look like the worst guy ever. Just so what? We can forget that his wife is cheating on him and that he maybe deserved it? I like Kate and rana but the writing is pissing me off. I hope these aren’t legit spoilers. Zee doesn’t deserve his character being trashed this badly.

I don’t think that’s their intention. Yes, his actions are going to make Kana fans not like him for a while, but these characters’ claims to likability can stretch pretty far and still snap back into place when it’s redemption time. I hate it from the other side, on behalf of Rana, but I’m sure come a few months time, I’ll be fine with him.

Like, the actual worst guy, Phelan, is already there. Adam’s pretending to be Billy’s friend while replacing his pain meds. Daniel attacked his dad. Aidan also punched his sick dad and carried on an affair. Tracy exists. Except for Phelan, because I guess imprisoning people for months and multiple murders is a hair too far, all are shown in a sympathetic light or are forgiven with some “explanation” for their behavior. Zee’s hurt and anguish will be highlighted and the general audience won’t turn on him too much (especially since outside the LGBT community, outing isn’t perceived as awful as it is). He’s just going to be seen as lashing out, unseemly in the moment but ultimately understandable.

It’s basically going to be the first time we see Zee be present in this storyline beyond being a Heck type placeholder for nice supportive husband. If you remember the Eva/Aidan/Maria affair, Aidan/Maria wasn’t given at all the same treatment as Kana, with Eva getting lots more time to be vulnerable and sympathetic than Zee, even before she found out, and then after she did, she plotted her revenge and pretended to be pregnant and let Aidan get all excited about being a dad. Certainly not a nice thing for Eva’s character, but she was also shown to be hurt and sometimes conflicted about her plan. Zee will most likely be similar, with alcohol exacerbating his behavior during the few eps where this all goes down, and his conscience and actual good nature showing itself pretty quickly after, even if it takes more time for the situation to be resolved for everyone.

kanawarrior on Twitter came up with a theory that this isn’t the first time rana has had feelings towards a girl and her parents know that and that that’s the twist. It probably won’t happen but it sounds good and it’d be a look into Rana’s past.

I’ve been thinking about that too and it’s definitely a possibility. I can immediately think of a couple of counterarguments, specifically Rana’s very genuine bewilderment at her feelings, even sadly confessing to Zee that she thought she might be homophobic, and then she seemed so adamant about never having felt anything like this before, including for other women.

Like, she brought it up in a such a way that implied she’d been analyzing herself and hadn’t found anything.

But. Corrie could easily retcon that or explain it as something in her past she might not even have fully understood at the time, how many of us had crushes as a kid we only realized were crushes years and years later? Or it could be some soapy dramatic thing where her parents found out and were so horrible about it, she repressed it completely.
