LOL. That last anon. i agree. But dont just kill off Rana.. blow up the whole street. The worst writers to ever do a show. I fell in love with Kana when the old producer (Kate Oates) decided to have a Muslim woman fall in love w her best friend. But ever since Kate O left, the new guy has ruined the show & their storyline by having lesbian Kate seduce a guy. Haha im just happy i dont have to watch Kana anymore. i wish Faye (Kate) would leave the show too. Then they could just leave in love

Bad producer stints are just part of the deal, like long-running comic titles/characters and crappy writers. I always knew there was an expiry date on Kana, I just didn’t think it’d happen like this.

And another anon:

Corrie killing off Rana doesn’t bother me like it might on some other show. Probably bc that show killing off ppl all the time & it’s just drama most of the time, hardly any soft sweet love stuff. i get that ppl want a good lesbian story but if you trying to find it on Corrie, you dumb. Even the hetero stories suck. Just my opinion

Whoever they kill off, it’s something else to kill off a Muslim lesbian. She’s not just a wlw character, though that’d be bad enough, given that even their high number of four at one point is certainly not close to parity, but she’s one of the only characters like this in the entire world. So many characters in fictional media existing in the world right now, hell, to ever existed, and she’s one of just a handful. You could say the only one to get this kind of development and screentime.

I don’t hold with your second point either. People wanting a good lesbian story did actually find that on Corrie, for a full year. It had its ups and downs but it was there, that’s why people got into them?

I’m no longer in a place where I allow f/f fans to blame themselves for when things go inevitably wrong. It’s not our fault we think every new writer trying their hand won’t be somehow both cruel AND tedious in doing the same old thing. That’s on them for being so ignorant and boring.

And another anon:

That last ask. Wow. Wooooooow. Imagine thinking it’s not a big deal that they kill off a queer Muslim woman. In this economy. It’s bad enough when they kill off lesbians/queer women in media Bc of the trope, but to kill off a WOC to top it off?? QWOC always get killed/written off and we are never replaced at the same rate as new white gay stories. And coming onto your page to share that take. Wow. Anyways if I don’t watch it it didn’t happen and Rana is alive & well.

Well, the last three asks actually, lol. Thank you, anon, for this ask, I was like, how are there three different people who not only think that but think I’m the person to share that with? Am the one who’s overreacting here? I’m not here to validate every single opinion, I’m literally just a fan.

Heh, you have the right idea! Gonna just before the wedding episode and consider that the end of the story.

And another anon:

Hi, different anon than the one before. In terms of the death of kana or what they should do with her character, having lived through the last couple years of representation I fully understand how some people believe that if you are going to get rid of a character, killing them is the worst way due to burying your gays, however I also understand how that anon feels avoiding any deaths isnt the best policy also. There is no great way to write off a character that some people will not agree with

I get what you’re saying but I didn’t even bother entertaining that ask because that’s an entirely different conversation that we weren’t having. I’m not talking about no LGBT character ever dying, I’m talking about this character, in this way. A Muslim lesbian who just recently came out and who has fought every step of the way to get here, dying on the day of her wedding to a woman? How can the damage there not be apparent?

I think anon was talking about the Emmy International (emmys for TV productions outside the US) where they have the best telenovela category.

@debnamcari said:

Nope, there is no Emmy Latino, there are Grammy Latinos.

And other anons:

About your anons: The International Emmys are awards for tv programs produced and aired outside USA and there’s a telenovela category. The Netflix thing: Televisa broke their deal with Netflix years ago to start their own streaming service (the really mediocre Blim), so now all their content (like AAM) goes to that site. There’s still novelas on Netflix, but most of all are from Telemundo/Caracol.

also, there’s no Latin Emmy… there’s an international Emmy award and it does have a best telenovela category but no Mexican telenovela has won and only one was nominated in like 10 years.

So basically this was in fact the biggest thing people could win for AAM or for any telenovela this year? Maybe that explains the drama that’s sprung up around it. I almost feel a little guilty for all the accusations the AAM actors and the production crew are having to field.

I don’t know how much clearer it could be, Juliantina has a large international fanbase that voted hard. Just because they didn’t see the surge in popularity doesn’t mean it wasn’t there. The accusations going from one thing to the next, corruption, fraud, nepotism, favoritism? And finally landing on the whiny “but one show shouldn’t win them alllll”. Well, the people who voted hard voted for that one show. What, fans of Juliantina and AAM should have been like, sorry, Claudia, Angelique already won so you’ll have to give yours up to someone from another show?

To be honest, I actually do think that it was very weird to only go by public voting for such a big award, it was absurd to not have a jury, but the voting system was known before and nobody objected. You can’t accuse people of cheating for following that system.

Regarding that Netflix thing, yes, I heard about that, but if Blim is failing, Netflix might have a chance? Or as someone else suggested, Amazon Prime?

ok. Rana’s story is confusing me bc i remember they talked about her dying but now there has been new spoilers with her running away and leaving Kate at the altar. so i dont know what to think, but with the last episode there were moments that i was like what? like the phone call with Zee & her response . (im actually one that’d rather have her die then breakup -tbh i’d rather have them both leave the show together bc Corrie sucks.. the storylines r crap.

I’m not entirely sure but I believe the last minute doubts spoilers are mostly to throw people off the scent and make them think she’s not the person who dies, since that’s supposed to be a big mystery for this event.

I’ve not been following things too closely, though, and I’d love to be wrong. Well, not with her running away necessarily, but remaining alive. But you’d rather the opposite and prefer for her to die? I can’t agree with that, sorry. If she’d broken up with Kate, especially if it’d been over something understandable like the ridiculous forced baby drama, at least there was a hope for something more. At least we’d know that there was this Muslim lesbian character out there living her life, perhaps getting to enjoy the adventures she’d dreamed of, mending a broken heart or waiting for Kate or whatever. That hope would have meant so much. But it’s going to crumble into nothing now. No hope, no future.

LOL. I wonder what Barbara showed Maca in that upper right gif that resulted in her awed expression. ?

And a hug! Lol, your guess is as good as mine. I know what we would all like it to be though, heh.

And another anon:

I love reading your answers to your anons. Always thoughtful and mature and when people make assumptions or negative comments (ex. Gonzo) you always look at both sides.

Aw, thank you! Heh, funny you say this after my kinda-meltdown yesterday but thank you.

Looking at both sides…also considered fence straddling, but it just makes sense to me There’s always a reason for why people behave the way they do, right, it may not be a good reason, but it’s there. So whenever people come to me about something, usually about others in the fandom, it’s like, well, we’re all ultimately on the same side here so let’s just break it down a little. Nobody’s engaging in fandom to be miserable and make others miserable. So maybe it’s ultimately my forced positivity, I dunno.

Are you watching the new season of For The People? Do you know if Caitlin Stasey is coming back? From what I gathered from the promos, imdb, etc. it doesn’t look like it :(

I am! I don’t know if she’ll be back but I don’t think you can trust IMDB right now, everyone’s ep counts seem off and the promos were so lacking in any kind of relationship drama, again, those aren’t signs. It wouldn’t surprise me if she appeared for a few scenes but I also wouldn’t be surprised if she was gone.

Who got their award first, Maca or Barbara?

Barbara. Which was good for our collective nerves, lol, since that one was by far the most hotly contested and keeping us under suspense. It was fairly early on, I think Beltran’s actor won and then a flurry of awards for categories that didn’t apply to us, then some song performances, including Carlos Rivera performing the AAM theme song which was really nice, both for being our theme but also because it’s a great song and the audience seemed to agree, a lot of people even from other shows singing along, and then he actually won for it, which made 2/2 and then Barbara.

When Maca’s category did come up, there was some sudden last minute tension in the fandom because gays always prepare for the worst, “what if we win everything except the most assured category” but she was obviously fine. Even Barbara was already recording her, ready for the win. ^_^

I started watching proven innocent after seeing trailers and i thought it just looked interesting, but now i’m much more into it cause HOLY CRAP OUR GIRL IN BI AND CANON

I know! I actually really like her character already, I mean, yeah, she’s gorgeous and that hair, but she’s good, she’s just…good. I was already happy with ep four when she was like, uh, this is clear bigotry because this woman is Muslim and they’re making a pro-life example out of her and I won’t stand for it. Uh, sold! I hear criticism of the show for not being complex enough but like, I would much rather it be this earnest and well-intentioned when dealing with this subject matter than some “nuanced” gray area take that really just refuses to commit to any side.

But also, she kissed a lady!
