Review:

  • For young adult fiction this was a pretty good story. The idea was cute, and humorous. What I like about the Glee Novels is that they focus more on character development than the music. You really get insight into the characters. This story took place just after Rachel met Jesse St. James. It was humorous in places, and sweet in others. Continuity is definitely paid much more attention to in the books than in the shows. Overall, for a little light reading I really enjoyed it.

Rachel Berry:

  • This was decidedly Rachel-centric. She met her match in the form of French Celeste. It was hilarious being inside Rachel’s head, and seeing her react to someone just as talented. But of course by the end Rachel had somewhat learned a lesson. The novel also had lots of Cheerio/Rachel interaction. Rachel was in character, and as always funny, but it just wasn’t the same without Lea’s expressions.

Quinn Fabray:

  • After reading this there is no way you can think Quinn is straight.
  • For two chapters straight Rachel is all Quinn obsesses over, while it is only to torture the girl, the fact that she puts so much effort into it is very interesting.
  • She also shows a deep understanding of both Rachel’s good and bad traits. The girl obviously thinks about the diva quite a bit.
  • I will do further analysis of this in a separate post, because there are quite a few good quotes.

Memorable Lines:

  • “Just as Kurt started to picture himself wearing his black fedora to Rachel’s funeral and singing Elton John’s ‘Candle in the Wind,’ Mercedes interrupted his fantasy. ‘I’m not sure cancer is strong enough to kill Rachel.” (10)
  • “She (Mercedes) was already annoyed with Rachel, who had asked earlier if Mercedes’s giant gold star earrings were an homage to her. Rachel seemed to think the gold star was her own personal symbol.”
  • ” ‘Wait, berets are in? Like the cheese?’ Brittany whispered to Santana. ‘I totally missed that.’ ‘That’s Brie, not berets,’ Santana whispered back.
  • ” ‘The only way to impress Sue Sylvester is to be Sue Sylvester.’ “
  • “Tina wished she could be a better host —- earlier in the hallway she’d passed Rachel, who was like a tour guide on crack…”

All in all it was enjoyable and fun.
