I liked Desenfrenadas as well, it was a slow process at times and I had to force myself to keep on watching. All for Barbara but then I was hooked. Like you mentioned I too had to pay more attention cause I watched it with subtitles and could not do anything else besides. I totally had to skip the intimate and graphic scenes with Rocio though, I really felt weird watching that lol. Just no. Also, the show had so very few likeable, tolerable and just ok men, it was frustrating at times.

Yeah, I was curious at first, looking to see how it’d unfold, each of the character introductions was strong and gave us a sense of who they were (at the start of their arc), but the show had that kind of vibe where I wasn’t sure if they were going to focus on the actual characters and their story or if they wanted to just make bold statements, be Cool and Different and shock us. Thankfully, they were very much about the characters and once the friends started really interacting, I got more and more pulled in.

Lol, I get skipping those scenes, and yes, most of the men were awful! It did feel frustrating, but I also wasn’t gonna be like, well, this is unrealistic. >_> The frustration felt more like, can they get a break? And they did! Thankfully, after that first spate of horrible dudes, they found better men. A lot of their conflict was set up against oppressive men and it’s a general truth that a lot of men suck and a lot of women do suffer because of that but they did take pains to point out some men were nice, at Tobias’s beach. Carly’s little disclaimer, lol

I’m obsessed with desenfrenadas :D are we getting more seasons you think??

Saaame. It was a good damn show! There are so many parts I keep going back to, so many tiny little moments I LOVED. That aren’t even MarVera! Rocio exchanging the bracelet for the hat. Everything about Juana, the way she eased the pregnant woman’s pain AND fear, the way she and Ro said goodbye. Vera’s stepmom laughing along with the girls by the pool, that was absolutely one of my stealth FAVE moments, when it was just all of them chilling for a bit, no agenda. Just so many things, the friendships, the different kinds of dynamics between all the different women, each of the original trio relating to the other two differently and then to Marcela in a whole new way. The way Vera sank into Marcela’s hug after being yelled at about the dresses and then immediately going to Ro and Carly as soon as they showed up, lol. Omg, when they stumbled into Carly and Vera covered Ro and Marcela’s eyes! No matter how heavy or deep it got, there was always this hope and eventual lightness and trust in each other.

That’s WHY I’m open to a second season, when shows value that, like, optimism?, I’m more willing to see where there’ll go next. I really hope there’s another season, I don’t really know with Netflix and the streaming landscape what will get more shows and what won’t. No more endless money, but I hope this was popular enough in some places to justify it?

I somehow feel like spanish shows are really delivering in quality! Like so much depth, chemestry and understanding, like I’m blown away! Just like you I feel like I need to learn Spanish haha (I know you’re not watching skam espana but it is seriously the best remake, even better than the og controversial I know…)

Well, Desenfrenadas is Mexican, and so was AAM (although that was very much a different genre, it still delivered on what it promised). But for sure, Spain’s got some shows worth following. I will absolutely accede that Skam Espana also does what it sets out to do, lol. And of course they’ve had many shows over the years, just recently The Pier/El Embarcadero and Acacias 38 and Amar es para Siempre.

Learning Spanish opens up honestly some of the best f/f storytelling we’ve had on TV in recent years, when you look at Mexican, Spanish, and Argentine shows. And they say that if you know Spanish, you can understand Portuguese, so that adds Portugal and Brazil too. And you know, even when stuff is in English or has official subs, ODAAT and Gentefied and Vida, they’re feeding us well.

And the BTS content! We can’t rely on poor fans to translate everything. I’m still waiting on the Cultura Colectiva subs. Honestly…we should learn. Aside from the fact that there are a whole bunch of real live people who also speak the language who we can then converse with in their language. 😮

Just watched desenfrenadas and now I’m like seriously in love with Tessa Ia? Like she’s just ???? and I keep replaying in my head all the Marcela and Vera scenes like when they talk about the ring! And like, if I was ever to write a doc about them (which I probably won’t cuz I really don’t have time), it would have Vera giving the ring to Marcela

Lol, all of us coming out of this show with a whole new set of crushes. She’s very, very good. She took a role that required such a careful threading of the needle and absolutely came out winning over everyone.

God, anon, the ring. Rest assured that I am internally Jenny Slate screaming over that ring at ALL TIMES. The framing of it….art.

Like??

And

By the time these happened, we already had some idea the show would go there, because of the way Vera was looking at her when they were changing, we all Knew what that implied (and believe me, I was already sitting up and leaning forward :D). But the way the show used the ring in their story, first these super romantically coded shots and as this little secret between them and then a way to tie them together and make Vera chase Marcela. AND WHEN MARCELA KISSES IT

I… Honestly…yeah, I didn’t even think of that, but a fic where Vera now gives the ring to Marcela is honestly the most perfect idea I’ve ever heard.

I how desenfrenadas didn’t make a big deal about Vera sexuality. We saw Ro and Carly teasing Vera just like we saw them teasing Ro about her love interest. They were surprised they hook up cause Vera “hated” Marcela not because she was a girl. My sweet kind protective Ro was their biggest shipper. I never thought I will love Ro as I love Juliana

I really loved how the show treated it too! I always support the Dan Levy no-homophobia approach. I think both were genuinely surprised, you could see it in their reactions when they found out, and not just that it was Vera and Marcela but Vera and a girl, but they absolutely made it clear how okay they were with it and handled it in the way that most made her comfortable. With some light teasing, lol.

I liked how in a group with such strong personalities like Vera’s and Marcela’s, Ro and Carly, the two softer ones, get their way so often. It’s because Vera and Marcela are actually total marshmallows inside that they allow that to happen. It still makes me laugh how in the car in that first scene, Marcela started off with the gun and being irritated at Ro’s attempts to calm down Vera and then ended up doing it herself, unloading the gun and everything.

All the girls got to be so three dimensional! Ro was the smart and responsible and kind one but she was also the one whose breakdown started all this, who got frustrated with Vera and victim-blamed her, who made her parents worry (not that they were the best parents). She’s not perfect, but she apologizes to those she hurts and she tries her best. She was the one who tried to help Marcela, many times, and has probably tried similarly to deal with and help Vera (not that that excuses the victim-blaming!). I’m not saying she’s my fave, but I do always love the nice mom friend type and she’s played by Barbara Lopez, so. :p

You know, I wonder if she will tease them together about it. I wonder when the second season will pick up. Ready to see Carly’s rainbow paraphernalia in support and Vera absolutely not knowing how to deal with any of it!
