I am hosting a Q&A with writer/director Ol Parker after a screening of Imagine Me & You this Saturday, 7th September 2019.
If you have any burning questions about the film – the making of, the inspiration behind it, etc etc – now is your time to let me know. I know how beloved this film is.
You can either reply to this post with your questions, or send them to me privately via ask if you prefer. Please make sure to send your questions before 2pm GMT Saturday 7th September. I can’t guarantee that I’ll be able to ask many of your questions, but I’ll do what I can.
If this post attracts interest, I will post updates, and endeavour to post some kind of record of the chat so you know what Ol’s responses are.
And if you live in London or the East of England and want to know more details about the screening, don’t be afraid to reach out. The film is showing as part of a LGBTQ+ film festival, where tickets for people 30 and under are just £5 per film (or you can get a weekend pass for £15). I will also be hosting a screening of But I’m A Cheerleader with a Make Your Own Pom-poms craft + chat session beforehand, on the following weekend, if that’s more your jam. There will also be a couple of free screenings of documentaries about LGBTQ+ issues, if you’re skint but want to check the festival out.
Lastly, I’d appreciate reblogs of this post, to get the word out there! Many thanks!
Haha, yeah, it is a bit lose-lose here, right. Though, I have heard that spec as well, but isn’t it hoped to be the start of a new trilogy? I don’t think this time they’d be as willing to get rid of one of their stars right off the bat? But given the genre and just the way modern media conveys high stakes, we all expect one of the good guys to die. I’ve seen spec or rumors about all of the helpers, Grace, Sarah Connor, and Arnie. I always hope it’s not going to be any of them and in fact would be super sad at losing the Sarah Connor, so I’m just worried in general. Whoops.
And another anon:
Why cast the actor of one of the most recognizable gay icons of the last few years if they didn’t want it to be gay (or have a wlw following)? Also, the two scenes you posted in the response to my rambling are both in the RedBand trailer if I’m correct. Because maybe it is gay! This IS the sort of movie who could break through. It’s R rated so no backlash from families, San Junipero was loved by basically everyone except hardcore homophobes, it wants to scare misogynistic trolls! It’d be perfect
Okay, I’ll grant San Junipero is well known for its f/f but I don’t know if I’d call her a recognizable gay icon. Or ascribe any of those motivations to the casting people… I mean, they cast her in Tully where there was also some obvious subtext and look what happened there.
It WOULD be perfect, for all those reasons, and yet. Clearly you’re not convinced yourself:
Same anon:
[cont.] Everything about the production screams gay, but if they actually did it they’d pat themselves on the back so hard they’d spit their own bullshit. BUT maybe they don’t want to spoil or scare off potential audiences by promoting the gay romance? OR they actually want it to be a surprise to thank all the wlw who kept renting at Blockbusters T2 in the 90s just for Linda’s biceps? Who knows. Grace is probably Dani’s adopted daughter from the future. Ugh.
Hahaha, yeah, if only they made this as a gift to all wlw. I mean, it looks like a goddamn gift right now. Honestly, I’m surprised there isn’t a ton of fic already? What are people waiting for? Once they get momzoned it’s all gonna dry up.
