It’s airing weekly on TV but all the eps are already available here, if you can get a British IP (from a pretty good VPN): https://www.channel4.com/programmes/this-way-up/on-demand/65230-001
Omgggg I stopped watching ouat after s1, but Regina and Emma totally belonged together and it’s clear the show did not know how to deal with that lol. But from what bits and pieces I’ve seen post s1, the show blew up the storylines that’d make the most sense Bc they def couldn’t have a f/f ship be the focus. Ouat was kinda the opposite of poi, they accidentally wrote soulmates and torpedoed it for the heteros. If one of them had been a dude they would’ve 100% gone in for the romance.
Arghhh, right? God, I LOVED the first season. I loved it as a show. I loved the cheesiness, Snow, Charming, Snowing, “I will always find you”, the tinkly music when something magical happened, the parallels between Storybrooke and Fairy Tale Land in both timelines, the different and often funny spins on the fairytales, Snow White being a badass, Red Riding Hood being a werewolf (a super hot werewolf). And of course I loved that the central story seemed to be between three women with very complicated dynamics.
I just don’t get how you could write this story with this woman, a victim–as declared by the show itself–who victimizes others in turn, her biggest victim prophesied as the way to end this cycle of heartbreak and pain and then like, just…not go there? You have the Evil Queen’s son bring the White Knight to end the curse and find happiness for everyone and then decide to put them with other people?
We say that all the time, “if one of them had been a dude, they’d have gone for the romance” and in those cases there’s a lot of chemistry and the dynamic is interesting but this is one of the only times I can think of where it’s literally part of the story. Like you said, the opposite of Shoot, which is one of those times they stumbled into chemistry/dynamic and then they decided to make it canon, here, it’s the story that supports it. Evil Queen and Snow White’s child, who both love their kid. There’s no reason to not put them together.
Eid Mubarak! Hope you have a good one and thank you for keeping me supplied with that JuliantinaContentTM for all those months -a gay-content deprived hindu lesbian
Ah, thank you so much! Reaching across the aisle, anon, the power of f/f. 😛
It is a bit sparse right now, eh. But there’s…some stuff? I’m not caught up on all of these and wouldn’t necessarily recommend them, but Claws today, Grand Hotel tomorrow, then Ambitions, Harlots, I think Pandora technically has a pansexual character but man, that show was bad, even I dropped that. The Outpost has suddenly become super straight…Handmaid’s Tale, Krypton, Queen Sugar, Killjoys, BH90210 had that weird–I don’t know what it’s supposed to be attempting with like, a meta version of the actress kissing a female bartender, Fear the Walking Dead has Althea, Glow’s new season, Light as a Feather’s new season, OITNB’s last season and…that always has something, if you can get past Poussey’s death as I could not, Wu Assassins’ kiss turned out to be queerbaiting, Neighbours is apparently back on its bullshit, Emmerdale is finally giving time to Vanity again, Amar es Para Siempre isn’t in the best place right now but that ship is probably one of the closest to Juliantina…
But no, nothing really in that place right now where you’re getting a lot of good content and can really feel excited about a ship with significant time and plot.
Eid Mubarak, friend! Wanted to wish you a happy Eid and say thanks for all the quality content you exposed us all to with your gifs :)
Thank you, kind anon! Eid Mubarak to you, if you celebrate it, and to all my other followers who do. 🙂
Rana was coronation street, and her death wasn’t done under kate oates who’s the producer of eastenders so i wouldn’t worry too much
Oh, I don’t know, anon, I think there are very few writers who completely exclude it from their repertoire. They always think that in their particular case, it makes sense and is separate from the character being part of a marginalized group.
But I wasn’t really thinking in terms of that, it’s just–it’s a soap, it’s gonna be messy. And possibly really short-lived like Shortland Street’s recent foray or, perhaps worst of all, just plain boring. Kana had great chemistry, but what I really loved was that it was between two characters who’d already been on for a while and had their own stories and were their own people. I haven’t read much into Iqra’s story yet but presumably her love interest will be introduced as just that, a love interest?
There might be another addition to your Muslim lgbt tag soon on Eastenders (maybe you already know, but you’re the first person I thought about when I saw it)
Oh, oh, I’ve heard about this! Iqra, right? All I know about Eastenders is from when Kana started taking off and people would compare Rana to Syed. I’m so pleased you came to tell me, anon. 🙂 I am pleased to finally have more use for the tag, hopefully it won’t be awful.
ok?
Thanks for checking in, anon, and so succinctly! 😛
I dunno, I’ve kinda plateaued a bit, I don’t feel nearly as bad as I did a the start of all this, it’s just fatigue and mild but constant headaches. I just can’t muster the energy to post. I still haven’t caught up on TV, I always say I’m going to and then never can. But it’s a little funny, in a very sad kind of way, how since I last posted about which shows/ships I wanted to gif, already several of them have run into trouble.
As I said before, I have been reading more! After finishing some of the books that’ve come out recently, I’ve switched to going through old fics and man, it’s been pretty great. Haven’t been in a fic-reading mood for the last…years, it feels like, despite the few recommended fics here and there, but I’ve just been tearing through not only a lot of old faves, I even finished these two long ass SQ fics I’d been saving forever. Now that I look it up…six years? It. Was. Worth it!
To go off on a tangent for a bit, gosh, I stopped watching OUAT pretty early on, despite liking the first season so, so much, and SW was probably my favorite ship in the end, but I don’t know of a single other subtext couple I’ve ever shipped that belonged together as much as SQ did. It was written so deeply into the show! This isn’t just me shipping anything f/f, I honestly don’t get how you could set up all those pieces they did for the OUAT premise and then not put them together.
Anyway! Heh. Yeah, I’m around, I’m all right-ish. How about you, anon?
