Why does Kate Habeeb sound weird? It’s different and unusual, sure, but doesn’t that add more to the significance of this? How often do people see interracial marriages with desi people? Not to mention, a lot of people think any desi names are weird.
But anyway, I wasn’t expecting or nor particularly wanting Kate Habeeb. I’m not a huge fan of the name in itself, lol. If you look it up with the Habib spelling, it’s actually a huge brand in Pakistan. I just like the significance of how it’s used here.
I’d like it to be hyphenated and not remove Habeeb altogether. Even though Rana’s parents have treated them all badly, Rana is a Habeeb herself, as is Imran, who despite his faults (exacerbated by being on a soap) has been mostly a good brother. It’s who she is, it’s who her family is, down to roots far beyond Saira and Hassan. There are going to be Habeebs in Pakistan (and probably relatives in India) who’re gonna share a name with these wives. I love that.
