#this was mostly a filler ep as far as kat was concerned #settling into her role as sheriff #and revealing that caleb knows about the bounty #but in the few minutes we got it really hits home all the western hero traits she embodies #and then of course all the ones she overturns #how she looks how she rides how she handles guns her stoic toughness #but where all that comes from #metis and a woman #she protects those like her #empathy and justice combined #the aesthetic is awesome though
Actually, you know what? I’m wrong. I’m so wrong.
She’s coded as a typical Western villain. All in black, long billowing coat, flat brimmed hat instead of a ten gallon, half Metis. She’s outwardly such a threat, ready to go against white men. But she’s got so much more kindness and justice in her than John Wayne ever did. Her perspective isn’t new, it’s just one that never gets told.
