Yeah, that part of it struck me as so gross, where he’s all ready to criticize Beth for the drugs and the depression and the way she wouldn’t sleep with him anymore and pretty much thinking of Sarah as a better replacement.

I’ve actually been thinking about Beth recently, and Katja, and mourning them more now than during their actual deaths. Despite each getting like, a minute of actual screentime, they’ve both figured so heavily in the story. I usually favor shortened seasons but this is one show that could have totally made use of more time. I want to learn so much more than what we’re given, so much more about the other clones, more about each of our core four, more about Beth and Katja, their families, the different organizations at play here, everything!

Beth, whose position as a cop and connection with Art is still in play, who in the end couldn’t take it any longer and without telling the three clones relying on her, ended it. Katja, who somehow uncovered the clone killings in Europe (how? Failed attempt on her?) and picked up a mysterious disease and with her scads of money, traveled across the Atlantic only to be killed in the back of some stranger’s car.

I wonder what each of their reactions were, when they found out, if they were as shaken up as Alison, or took it in stride like Sarah, or appreciated the marvel of it like Cosima. Sarah actually seems to almost thrive from this, from an actual role (even if its Beth’s), like maybe she has a reason for why things always seemed wrong? She’s clearly unhappy about being in the situation, but she seems more in control than she’s been in a while, and thinking fast on her feet and the de facto leader of the clone club. Cosima, as per her perspective rooted in science and privilege, seems to be able to view it in the abstract, separate from herself. Poor Alison’s reacted probably the way most people would, as if this her whole identity has been a lie, and then there’s Helena who’s thought she was the original the whole time.

I wonder if, had she not been sick, would Katja have just disappeared instead of following up. She had the money to do it. It’s actually really interesting how the clones represent different systems: Katja is money, Cosima is science, Helena is religion, Beth is the law, Alison is middle class family, and Sarah is perhaps the absence of all of those, fallen through the cracks. And the show doesn’t treat any of them like the representative of that system, just, that’s how they are. Cosima is seduced by the thought of discoveries and advances, Helena is manipulated, Beth ended up killing an unarmed woman and involved her partner in the coverup, Alison’s assaulted her husband and her neighbor, and Sarah just seems to absorb it all.

I really wish we had a ton more episodes lined up, instead of just one!
